In Trenton on January 20 James F. Fielder of Hudson County took the oath with a Down Town Club Bible and a Patri son Band in attendance. His inaugural address urged legislative reform to curb late sessions, a reference bureau, and a legal advisor. He called for careful state finances, reduced departments, and economy pending the Economy and Efficiency Commission report.
At the Freehold annual Board of Health meeting, Alonso Brower reported last year recorded 66 births, 50 deaths, and 49 marriages. Births topped deaths by sixteen, with marriages rising by six. Brower praised the town’s overall health, noting no recorded fatalities of note during the period.
Morris Wood the world champion ice skater and Mrs. Wood visit Hatontown as guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Van Tassell. Wood, a Long Branch native, plans to race at Red Bank on Saturday with professional skaters lined up to challenge him.
Judge Jacob Steinbach Jr remains at his Third Avenue home following an operation at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. He is reported to be feeling very well after a long siege since his bowling accident months ago and hopes to visit his office in a few days.
Sigmund Bianer plans substantial renovations on Bridge Avenue Red Bank converting the building basement into seven offices covering about 8000 square feet. The layout includes Eisner private office show room bookkeeper offices payroll private offices for son Raymond and manager Fred Hurley Lester stenographer office with eight girls timber office trimming room and oak paneling with Florentine glass. A private telephone exchange will be installed and a five foot passageway runs to the rear. The project, overseen by Earling Johnson Frake Co, is over half done and costs 41000.
New York on January 20 reports the worst tie up in history as a broken axle wrecked a train at 96th street near the neck for the bottle where express and local trains diverge. The entire system was tied up for three hours delaying more than 40,000 commuters reaching places of business.
Lord Strathcona, aged British High Commissioner for Canada, ill with catarrhal affection, was abandoned today as his condition weakened and restoratives were required during the night. In Washington the House Elections Committee rejected Claude Carney's challenge by unanimous vote amid contest doubts. Neptune Mall dance tonight features Citizen's Band.
Former Mayor Thomas R. Woolley was reelected president of the Board of Governors of the Monmouth Memorial Hospital as trustees organized after yesterday's meeting. The board accepted the resignation of Thomas D. Bazley, lauding his long service and honoring his past leadership with formal resolutions.
At a Chamber of Commerce meeting Congressman Thomas J. Scully reported he will pursue replacing Indiana limestone with white marble for the exterior of the new federal building on Third Avenue and Van Dyke Place. Also notes former Senator Shelby Cullom's critical illness in Washington and Captain William Willis burned to death on the barge Thomas in Staten Island.
Washington January 20 Chair man Ben Johnson of the House District Committee and John Shields a Washington lawyer fought in the district committee room of the Capitol. Johnson bruised face Shields jaw heavy blows were exchanged before separation. Johnson shouted Give me that pistol let me kill him. Shields went to a sub committee hearing. Both men over six feet tall and over 180 pounds.
A conference at the Intermedial School with the Board of Education and M C A officials led to plans to organize a Young Men's Club. Initiation is $1 with 75 cents monthly dues to hire an instructor and maintenance staff. Baumann of Newark will teach. current membership is 55 and meetings shift to two per week after the 75 member threshold. The club meets Wednesdays 7 15 to 9 30, aims to establish steady operation at the term media School next Friday.
The first midyear class at Chattle will graduate, totaling twelve students, six boys and six girls. They will receive diplomas at special exercises at the auditorium next month and participate in the commencement in June 1014. The list of graduates includes areas such as Areortea's and area church names, though the text is partially garbled.

Panic on January 20 as a front car jumped the track on the Third Avenue elevated line in New York. The car struck the third rail and ignited a fire that engulfed the elevated structure and train. Firemen assisted passengers down ladders as flames were brought under control.
