Commission Merchants Win Suit Over Barrel Fees at Red Bank
Smith and Holden of New York sued Morris and Allaire of Red Bank after 730 barrels were shipped and payment received minus commissions. Morris and Allaire argued they were owed 15 cents per barrel for the returnable barrels, but the court found in favor of Smith and Holden for 48 dollars and costs. Presence of Mind Saves Boy's Life at Port Monmouth
John Bennett aged 17 of Port Monmouth escaped drowning after breaking through ice three miles from shore. He crawled out after throwing his gun across the opening, then crawled a half mile on ice before reaching Brower's store for dry clothing and returning home exhausted but safe.

George M. Cilins home on Main Street Keyport was entered by burglars last night for the third time in three years. Mrs. and Mrs. Collins were away in Red Bank from six to ten o'clock. back door stood open and the house ransacked. Only six dollars in cash missing. two diamond rings and other jewelry left untouched. Police notified and search on for local suspects familiar with the home.

Roy Pette Killed by Express Train Near Hazlet Crossin
Roy Pette 16, son of Andrew C and Rachel Pette, was fatally injured when an Atlantic City Express bound north struck his wagon at the first crossing south of Hazlet. He died at Hazlet station after the impact. his father witnessed the tragedy from about 75 yards away. The boy, a Hazlet public school student, died of skull fracture with other injuries. Coroner Harry C Fay empanelled a jury from Hazlet and Keyport. The family had just moved from the Crawford farm to Centerville. The track bank obscured view, and no whistle was sounded by either train. Funeral plans were pending. The incident follows prior near misses at the crossing.
