An elderly Asbury Park resident died in a bed fire caused by smoking with a pipe clenched between her teeth. The blaze destroyed three houses, including Frank B. Conover's Interlaken home and the West Grove residence of Justice Dodd, injuring two others.
Fire at Garfield avenue in Asbury Park razed two houses and a bungalow. Mrs Phoebe Mack 65 died from burns after neighbors say she may have started the blaze while smoking in bed in zero weather. Coroner Bennett notified. Estimated loss about 5500.
