A dispute over coaster interference led to an assault allegation against Brown as he allegedly accused Feeney of interfering and told him to mind his own business during a confrontation.
Fair Haven resident Joseph Feeney was held to await grand jury action after an assault on Councilman Myron V. Brown. Brown had warned Feeney to stop striking at children sliding near the Grand View hotel. Feeney struck Brown in the face when reprimanded.
The New Jersey Senate approved the Weypan Suffrage Resolution proposing a constitutional amendment giving women the vote. If the Assembly approves, it goes to the next Legislature and, if passed, to a public vote next year with suffragists predicting adoption at the polls. Senate vote 4 to 2 with Smalley and Barber opposing. Messrs. Smick and others were absent. In a side note, Daniel Brown of Oakhurst, over eighty, slipped on a jog and cut his head. a heavy cold now keeps him in bed as Attending physician KE Beach treats him.
A dog poisoner operated Belmont Avenue causing at least six canines to collapse from poisoned pills. Moseph DeCarlo first identified the culprit, with others named as owners mourning losses. Monmouth Boat Club in Red Bank hosted its twenty second annual Washington’s Birthday dinner for about 180 members. Henry Stewarts schooner tied at Oceanic dock caught fire while he slept in the cabin. A group of young people rushed aboard and woke him in time to prevent a deadly outcome. Fire department extinguished the blaze. interior damage reported. The vessel serves Stewart for cooking and farm work.
The Heitermeyer Cup final race at Long Branch saw Captain Walter Content’s Drub finish first by six lengths, Ingenue third, with a 25 25 total time for five laps as a holiday crowd cheered. Red Bank River events followed, featuring ice yacht and skating races, won by William M. Taylor and others amid a bustling winter program.
The Junior Christian Endeavor Society staged a Friday evening entertainment at First Presbyterian Church to general approval. The program featured a Fairy Queen chorus, Ship topano, vocal solos, piano numbers, and a Cow Boy Song with two encores. The cast included Mansfield Dorothy, Grace Miller, William Howe, Robert Hired, Martin Howe, Leon Pike, and Squire S. The event announced another entertainment in the near future.
