Five Horses Perish In Avery Avenue Stable Fire
A large frame livery stable belonging to Robert Pierce on Avery Avenue burned last night starting about 7 pm. Five horses, one cow, and two dogs died as flames spread to five surrounding cottages. Firefighters battled the blaze amid high heat and flying embers, saving some nearby homes but suffering through cold, with damage likely into the thousands though partly insured. The Pierce family was away. jewelry was saved from water damage.

Freed On Error In Charge In Grand Jury Remarks
The grand jury returned with eighteen indictments at noon today and adjourned to March 24 for unfinished matters. Jack Wilson of Long Branch was tried and acquitted for stealing a horse from W H Layton on September 9 1908. Witnesses included Dr H R Clark and Mr Layton. The court sustained a defense that the charge should have been embezzlement. The 8 P A case against Joseph Delisa of Long Branch was ruled not guilty on appeal.
