Congress Urged to Probe Treasury Circular 5

New York on February 7 Rudolph Spreckels, head of the First National Bank of San Francisco, urged Congress to investigate January 5 treasury circular directing customs money to banks. He warned the order conflicts with law and could shift over 200 million dollars in gold to New York banks, risking financial disruption after the Wilson administration.

Diseased beef found at Hatontown market inspector says

An inspector from the State Board of Health and J C Rush of Eatontown discuss a sickly side of beef from Joseph Miller’s market in Hatontown. The meat, said to be tubercular, was condemned on sight and a broader inquiry began. Miller, who also runs a slaughter house, may face charges for selling diseased cattle. The Senior Junior Debating Society held two debates. The first argued that a college education does not prepare a man for business with Meredith Parker Doris Newing for the affirmative and Earl Breece Richard Bower Dorothy Van Brant for the negative. The second debate on Broadway theatre as a community benefit saw Michael Davis Rowland Hughes Leroy Barry affirming and Harold Kazman Hazel Peirson opposing. the affirmative won two votes.

Trio Injured in Auto Crash With Telegraph Pole and Trolley

At about 10 pm in Eatontown boulevard, Commissioner John W. Flock and two passengers, Joseph Kirby and William Katz, were in a car avoiding a trolley when it struck a telephone pole and a large tree. Flock sustained serious injuries while Katz and Kirby suffered lesser hurts. The front of the car was wrecked, windshield shattered, and Flock treated by Dr. Welch. no bones were broken. The party returned by trolley, and Flock later inspected the scene.

Wreck injures man as buggy and car crash near Shrewsbury

In late evening a two horse power auto crashed into a wagon on the main turnpike in front of Thomas Johnson's place near Shrewsbury. George Wilkins was badly injured, while Chinney Conover and Wood Smith escaped unharmed. The younger Wilkins drove. the horse bolted but was stopped. Conover and Smith accuse the other of speed and avoidance. damages to the auto and wagon are to be determined. Collected details list George Wilkins hospitalized, others unhurt, and the wagon damaged.

Mercy Granted to Man in Wife's Death Case

William P. Wolcott of Great Harrington Massachusetts, motorman of the trolley that killed Mrs Lillie Rogan of Red Bank, was fined $250 after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Dr James W Rogan, her husband and pastor, urged mercy and refused to testify, influencing Judge Irwin to impose the sentence.

Red Men Celebrate 23rd Anniversary at Townley Hall

The Takanassee Tribe No. 168 and Wane ta Council No 18 D of P celebrated their anniversary with a turkey supper and dancing led by J Pitmin West's five piece orchestra. Charles Wortman served as floor manager and Charles D Flammer as general chairman with members including Alfred Errickson and Newell Atchley.
