Fire damages Broad Way window at Lieberman store

Wolf Lieberman proprietor of a department store faced double misfortune as his son Myer cut his hand needing five stitches and a fire started in the Broad Way window. The blaze, caused by a gas ignition, damaged holiday stock but did not spread to the main store, with an estimated loss around 350 dollars.

Head on collision blocks Eatontown trolley traffic

A head on crash on Main Street Eatontown between Jacob Nathanson Broadway confectioner and Albert Pringle caused trolley service delays. Nathanson’s car sustained heavy damage while Pringle’s was modestly damaged. Miss Hilda Miller escaped injury as vehicles blocked the trolley line near Foster’s residence, close to the 3 year old Van Dorn Hendrickson fatal spot.

Supreme Court Upholds Tax on Interstate Franchise

The New Jersey Supreme Court rules the franchise tax on public utilities crossing state lines is not unconstitutional as interstate commerce. Prison clemency frees Huhn and Moore in Freehold ruling

Judge John B. Poster vacated the six year state prison terms for Louis Huhn and Joseph Moore of Long Branch after petitions from 800 business and professional men and clergymen. They were originally fined 1000 dollars each for keeping a gambling house in 1905. the Supreme Court had ruled the court lacked jurisdiction. The judge cited sufficient punishment and public deterrence, with the prison term removed and the fines retained.

Funeral planned for Rev. Charles J. Young

Long Branch mourns Rev. Charles J. Young former pastor of the First Re formed Church and later Elberon Memorial and Church of the Puritans. He died from angina pectoris after a brief illness. Survived by his wife Miss Fannie Mather Burk and four children. Funeral set for 11 o'clock at the Church of the Puritans 130th Street near Fifth Avenue conducted by former pupils.
