Telephone Franchise Crdwnance Dropped in Long Branch

City officials heard surprise remarks as New York Telephone Company withdrew a petition for a street and highway franchise. The council and Board of Trade discussed amendments that could add city revenues, but the company withdrew the ordinance, which followed a prior dispute over city benefits and an existing perpetual franchise.

Sinking Fund Details Show City Bonded Debt Coverage

The report by the Starking Food Commissioners to the City Council notes a prior lack of a sinking fund for city bonds. After yearly allocations, the city ends with 69,283 dollars in sinking fund investments and 68,500 dollars in cash. Original Architects Restrain Pier Sale

William C Cottrell and Arthur F Cottrell of Asbury Park served injunctions on Long Branch Pier and Company and Samuel R Rosoff to halt disposal of the companys personal property and receipts from a sheriff sale. The restraining order returns to Chancellor in Trenton on Tuesday November 27. The case follows a Rosoff judgment against the Long Branch Pier and Land Company. A new Ocean Construction Company was formed with incorporators W D Hayward Jacob Meyers and Willi Lindsay to take over the property and continue work.

Firemen Relief Prosperity and New Year Officials

The Long Branch Firemen's Relief Association reports assets of 24 479 and year receipts totaling 6 158 71. Relief provided to 23 applicants, with investments in nineteen properties and a cash balance of 497 90. New officers elected include President Adam Worth and Vice President Henry Schoenlete. treasurer Kent re-elected for 27th time.

Fatal infection ends life of Atlantic Highlands boy

Frederick Stryker twelve died after a fever sore led to blood poisoning and gangrene. He was cared for at home then placed in retirement as doctors warned his condition worsened. Services were held from his late home with burial at Bay View Cemetery. He left six brothers and one sister and was mourned by friends and neighbors.

Lakewood to Build Large Memorial Hospital and Nurses Home

George J. Gould and partners plan a multi section hospital costing about 200000 near the Lakewood Hotel, funded by land donated by Captain A. M. Bradshaw. The Kumbesli Memorial Hospital will honor Dr. Paul T. Kimball and include a nurses home to support active duty nurses.
