German Raid Sinks Three British Merchant Ships

London reports a German naval raid along the English coast causing three ships to sink and multiple mines. The British cabinet met to discuss casualties, with 75 civilians killed and 267 wounded across three cities. Arcanian Council Reaches 175 Goal in Long Branch

Long Branch Council reaches the 175 member target set by the Grand Arcanum as of last night’s special meeting. Initiations added John Philip Hand ichuch and Frank Thomas Newcomb, affiliation for Geo H. Newkirk from Jersey City, with the council now at 200 members after starting the year at 192. Regent John J. Outdoor Christmas Tree Display at Red Bank This Year

Christmas events unfold in Red Bank with two illuminated trees at the fountain on December 24 and 25 under playground superintendent Mrs. Lorraine Warren. Volunteers from church choirs will lead singing as the firemen host a Christmas party at the Empire theatre with gifts for children and a later groceries and coin distribution in the borough. Bus service resumes with Sea Bright trips at 2 and 4 30 p m and extra Oakhurst runs before Christmas.

Way Paved for Coast Protection

Trenton officials and lawmakers moved toward a coast protection plan for New Jersey shorelines. A committee including Major EB Johnston and Col Frederick Abbott will draft a report for the Legislature with recommendations. Speakers urged federal, state, and local cooperation to fund bulkheads and preserve coastal amenities and lifeline facilities.

Baptist Concert Pleasing at First Baptist Church

A vocal concert at the First Baptist Church Wednesday evening drew a large audience including visitors from Atlantic Highlands Eatontown and Tinton Falls Red Bank and Shrewsbury. About 26 members attended the annual meeting at a Freehold house. Dr Reginald S Bennett of Asbury Park spoke on Medical Defense, recounting his experiences as a two time defendant in a $10,000 damage suit. Dr M Beach of West Long Branch was elected president, with Dr Roberts of Keyport as vice president, Dr Lester Wise of Long Branch as secretary, and Dr W A Robinson of Ocean Grove as treasurer.

Judge Foster Resigns from Monmouth County Court

Judge John Jf. Moster of the Monmouth County common pleas court tenders resignation to Gov James J. Fielder to take effect Monday December 21. Sen John W. Slocum of Freehold is named as probable successor with Gov Melcher expected to appoint the next day. Foster rose from county prosecutor to common pleas bench in 1907 after Heisley moved to circuit court.

Warships Sent to Panama to Enforce Isthmian Neutrality

Governor Goethals left Colon for Washington to brief President Wilson on violations of U S neutrality in the Panama Canal zone by belligerent ships, especially Britain.
