Fourteen Die in Dynamite Accident at Lackawanna Shaft

In Scranton Pennsylvania fourteen miners were killed instantly when one man mishandled dynamite, causing a blast that destroyed a mine carriage in the Tripp shaft of the Lackawanna Coal Company. It is unclear if others were lost from an opposite ascending carriage. Most victims were foreigners. the mine law limits ten per carriage.

No Opposition At Firemen Election In Long Branch

The Long Branch Fire Department elected chiefs with no opposition. Edward J. Reid became chief, James Ennis Jr. moved to the vacant post, and Andrew B. Nelson was chosen second assistant chief. The Neptune Hose Company member was elected without opposition, a rare event in the department’s history. Vote totals by unit were listed.

Donkey’s Hut Aerose lecture at Long Urnarch House

Two hours of laughter featured a illustrated lecture and picture show by D. Pltoher Woodward titled Aerose tha Con nent on a Donkeys Hut. The event was a benefit for the church with tickets priced at 15 and 25.

Progress Council No 3 Loyal Association elected officers for 1915 at its annual Odd Fellows Hall gathering. Henry Joline reported on the New York silver jubilee event November 30 with 64 new members admitted. Asbury Park Adopts Commission Government Vote

In Asbury Park voters approve commission government by 816 to 468, a 348 margin. Five wards vote across eight districts with a required 528 threshold. This makes Asbury Park the fourth New Jersey seaside town to adopt the system after Long Branch Atlantic City and Ocean City.

Democrats Celebrate Victory at Monmouth Dinner

About 150 Monmouth Democrats gathered at the Freehold Democratic Club dinner at Monmouth House. Prosector Rulif V. Lawrence toasted the party’s wins, including Henry K. Express Employes Narrow Escape in Rail Crossing Accident

Carl Uhl Clinton Harrison and John Dougherty employees of American Express in Red Bank narrowly escaped death at the Monmouth street crossing when a locomotive emerged from behind a passenger train and struck the express wagon horse. The horse suffered a broken leg and severe injuries before being shot by Dr. Lester Stryker.

Dr Potts Named Defendant in $3 000 Damage Suit

Dr George W Potts of Asbury Park faces two $3,000 damage actions filed in the Supreme Court by Mr and Mrs Umberto Grieco of Ocean Grove alleging a surgical instrument used in childbirth was left in Mrs Grieco’s abdomen for three months causing suffering and claimed permanent damage. The instrument was allegedly removed in a later operation by another local physician at Greene’s Hotel Long Branch.
