Men in Red Bank Baptists Meet New Pastor and Plan Aid

The December meeting of the Men's League of the Red Bank First Baptist Church met at Benjamin H. Ford's home on East Front Street. Rev. Johnson L. Miner, the new pastor, attended to meet members and discuss ideas. W. E B. Burn, new Red Bank Y M C A secretary, joined to connect with churchmen. The group approved routine business, funded flour for the Old Ladies Home in Newark along with a barrel of potatoes donated by vice president Henry C. McClean, and heard musical numbers by Eugene Magee and Lester C. Hance. Continuous refreshments followed.

Simpson Memorial Church Oyster Supper Draws Large Crowd

Over 200 persons enjoyed the oyster patty supper served by the Ladies Aid Society of the Simpson Memorial Church. The bazar runs tonight with booths strong as the art gallery and spinning wheel exhibit attract many. Ex Mayor Augustus Chandler helped in the kitchen and officials praised the meal as among the best.

Civil Service Calls For Election Law Reforms

The New Jersey Civil Service Commission urged amending the Geran election law to fix examination abuses and improve officer appointments. It cited low candidate turnout, possible political influence, and proposed restricting appointments of those who failed or skipped exams, with longer terms for those who pass.

Mason Conk Out Jumps Ride After Months of Rheumatism

Mason Conk of Branchport Avenue was able to ride on Thursday for the first time in months after a rheumatism attack that sometimes required attendant care. He plans to travel to the Pacific Coast as soon as able. Conk has sold his concrete curb business and land to James Cloughty. Paralyzing Stroke Afflicts West Long Branch Family

William Wilson, son-in-law of A R Chinery, suffered a slight stroke affecting speech. this is his second such event in a short period. Mrs Harry A Relyea, wife of Rev H A Relyea of Audubon, formerly Oakhurst, is seriously ill with blood poisoning after giving birth to a baby girl weeks ago. She is treated at a New Brunswick hospital. her recovery is anticipated. Mr Relyea, Oakhurst’s first pastor, had officiated marriages there.

Turkey Supper Served by Men on the 12th

A community turkey supper will be served by local men on the 12th at the church hall. Tickets are discounted at 50 cents for a dollar’s value, encouraging donations and fellowship. Proceeds support church activities and local outreach.

The men of the Presbyterian Church announce their fourth annual Turkey Dinner to be held next Tuesday evening in the church chapel. Plan Christmas Jubilee at St Luke's M E Sunday School

Plans were perfected for the Christmas jubilee of St Luke's M E Sunday School at the quarterly meeting of the Sunday School Association. Sixty officers and teachers attended as Dr George H Neal presided. The 27th inst. the holiday festivities begin with a 3 pm program for Cradle Roll Beginners and Primary, followed by gifts from Kris Kringle. The five main departments meet at 7 pm with Vaughn and Baker of Minneapolis directing. A canal Christmas treat and numerous awards close the evening. Mrs Christopher Gregory gave a piano solo in a prior program.

Man Pleads Guilty In Horse Cruelty Case In Cleveland

Henry Simms a second hand dealer on South Seventh Avenue faced a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals case after a Neglected horse was found unfit for work. Agent L N Bohanan ended the animal's suffering with a pistol shot and Simms paid a $50 fine plus costs in Judge Corns court. In Briceville Knoxville Iron Company mine two miles back from the entrance, about two hundred miners are entombed after a 7:30 AM explosion. Packer Club Wins Two Games At Lyceum Court

The Packer Social Club defeated the Asbury Park YMCA 70 to 12 on the Lyceum court before a large crowd. Frank Helles scored 13 baskets as the Packers dominated the game, leading 38 to 8 at halftime. A preliminary match between the Packers second team and the Olympices ended 24 to 14 in favor of the Packers after a stronger second half. Dancing followed with Harold Dennett’s orchestra.
