An ocean front complex built in 1881 including cottages and a casino was wiped out by a rapid blaze. The property, once sold for 80000 seven years ago, reportedly had about 150000 spent on it since, and the casino formerly served as a theater before burning.

Man Dies After Self-Inflicted Wound in City
Byron G. Stokes, found in J. N. Cubberley’s barn on Fifth Avenue with his throat cut, died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after attempts to close the wounds. Aged about 70, he objected to treatment but gave no reason. Burial plans set for Providence, R I, with widow unable to travel. John S. Gilbert of Providence is coordinating arrangements.

Senior partner at Parker & VanGelder, Winfield Scott Banks Parker died at his home 426 Broadway after an eleven week kidney illness. Born October 15 1861 in Jerseyville he trained in Freehold and Long Branch then studied law under Judge Heisley and John B Lanning. He practiced in the area for over thirty years and is survived by his daughter Margaret Banks Parker and siblings. Services to be held at First Reformed Church, burial Greenlawn Cemetery.
