Large attendance at Elks Memorial services in Lyceum

Long Branch Lodge No. 742 held its annual memorial at the Lyceum theatre with a full house on hand. Exalted Ruler B B Newcomb led the opening, with music by Prof Stillwell's orchestra and a male quartet led by Forrest Hulshart. Speakers from Chester and Asbury Park praised charity and memory as attendees heard a soprano solo and several renditions. The program included tributes by M L Ferris and Mark J Cummings, and notices mention a turkey supper, an ice boat club meeting, and a library dolls event scheduled for later dates.

Democrats Carried State on Sheriffs by 22785 Votes

Trenton December 4 An analysis of the November 7 election shows Democrats won seventeen sheriff races by 22785. Republican sheriff votes totaled 128898 while Democrats aggregated 150683. Republicans carried Atlantic and Union only. Socialists rose to 10760 in Assembly and Prohibition fell to fourth place.

Belford Carpenter Injured In Fall From Scaffold

Belford carpenter Henry Granderith fell from a top scaffold while working on a new Belford house Friday. He was unconscious, scalp torn, and required stitches. He may have internal injuries and nasal and oral bleeding. He recently returned from Germany after receiving a several thousand dollar bequest and plans to build a fine home if he recovers.

Weather Bureau forecast for 36 hours ending Tuesday night calls for fair and colder conditions in New Jersey with diminishing northerly winds. Reports from Long Branch show northeast to north winds, 49 mph peak, temps 46 yesterday, 30 last night, 40 at 8 am, humidity 89 rising to 76 by 10 am, and 1.01 inches of snowfall on level. Benjamin Woolley Named Permanent Carrier on Free Delivery Route

Benjamin Woolley has been appointed a permanent carrier on the Free Delivery force reporting for duty last Friday. He is the first permanent addition to the force since 1902. Woolley will take over the route previously served by Arthur VanDerveer, covering Third Avenue and Broadway to Chelsea, Ocean Avenue to Matilda Terrace, Matilda Terrace to Cottage Place, a portion of Bath Avenue, Saks Avenue and part of Second Avenue.

Bribery In McNamara Case Shifts Withheld Evidence

Los Angeles reports say District Attorney Fredericks will withhold key evidence in the McNamara case. Mrs. Bain's $300 bribe money was turned over to the DA as evidence and she cannot name the giver. Prosecution hints two jurors accepted bribes and says pleas may be influenced by bribery peril. Long Branch Reports First Jersey Coast Small Craft Warning

Long Branch becomes the first Jersey Coast town to receive the new Small Craft Warning effective December 1. The signal was transmitted from Washington and displayed at the Weather Bureau station in North Broadway at 9 40 p m. Observer Martin notes it is the first such warning along the coast. The Record recently published a description of the warning. The annual firemen election is set for tomorrow night with eight companies participating. Councilman Charles E Brown is expected to be unopposed as chief, with Joseph Kingsland as first assistant chief. The contest for second assistant chief features Edward J Reid and Joseph Schwark, at Casino on Wednesday evening December 7. Tickets 75 cents. A bazaar at Simpson M Church features handkerchiefs, fancy goods, a Japanese booth, hot bouillon, bread and cake, Delicacies, popcorn, candy, art, and stationery booths, plus an ice cream parlor and art gallery. Burglar youths jailed in Red Bank case

A complaint filed in Red Bank against Benjamin Johnson fourteen and George Moran twelve led to arrests after a June bakery break in. Johnson confessed to multiple robberies on Broad street, including Childs bakery and nearby stores, with about $13 in coins seized. Moran confessed later. Johnson remains at large as a warrant is issued.
