Auto crash in Matawan injures four and kills horse
An auto owned by Lester Clayton from Freehold collided with a milk wagon in Matawan on Main Street near Frank Bedle's livery. Four occupants in the Clayton car were hurt, two seriously. The milk wagon horse was killed and the wagon wrecked. Eyewitnesses said the Clayton car was going fast and struck broadside, throwing a man and woman from the Smock wagon. One passenger, Miss Frances Kober of Hudson, was injured badly, including a broken tooth, head injuries, and tendon strains. The crash forced a physician to the scene and left Clayton briefly blinded by impact. The incident followed a separate accident at Crawford's Corner where Mrs. Mary Bailey fractured a collar bone following a collision between two cars.

The Red Bank shoe repairer Gottlweb Pfahler was found hanged in his shop on Front street near Coroner Fay's funeral parlors around 11 am. Pfahler, behind on rent and bills, apparently despondent over financial troubles, had a dispossess notice served that morning. He had lived in the U.S. since the 1890s, earlier worked in New York and Red Bank, and owned the shop for about five years.
