Dog Bite in John Street Injures Cyclist

Harry Finch, brother of Patrolman Finn of Branchport, was bitten on the leg Friday evening while riding a bicycle on John Street. The dog, alleged to belong to Peter Greer, left teeth imprints on Finn and tore his pants. The wound bled but no doctor was consulted.

Made Great Pool Play At Ansonia and Coleman House

Amateur pool player Ted Reynolds of New York who held the title at Ansonia Hall and recently ran 58 at Coleman House Asbury Park visited Saturday. He accepted a friendly challenge, won the frame, then the second and third. Reynolds faltered on the fourteenth ball in the corner pocket. Man Fatally Hurt by Joy Ride Car Crash

Wesley Bolce of Middletown was struck by a speeding touring car while alighting from a market wagon near his farm by two bridges of the New York and Long Branch Railroad. He died or is near death as specialists work, with attempts to save him overnight. three men and a driver fled the scene and are being sought by authorities.

Field Day Sports Attract Crowd At Horse Show Grounds

The field day events drew summer attendees with a five mile professional foot race won by William Queat. Highlight events included a high jump between man horse and dog with Fred Gerner top. Other winners spanned Mannikin race Harry Combs and Umbrella race George Bamberger.

Water carnival at Atlantic Highlands draws 3500 crowd

John Leslie hosted the annual water carnival at Leslie's Beach Atlantic Highlands attracting over 3500 spectators. Local artists and summer residents competed across diving, half mile swim, 220 yard dash, junior 50 yard swim, girls 50 yards, and a canoe race with top prizes awarded to R Ryker Louis Foster Jr Leslie Joy Pauline Posten Dorothy Hagerman and Helen Vaughans among others. Sexton Bros undertakers and embalmers were noted in the event description.

Declines to Run for Assembly in Monmouth Race

B. B. Bobbitt withdraws from the Democratic Assembly bid in Monmouth, filing a declination with County Clerk Joseph McDermott at Freehold. The slate then features ex-assemblymen Frank Heyer and B. Woolley and Edward A. Merdian. local option candidates include William Curchin, Harry Bennett, Leon Taylor, and James Hendrickson. Bobbitt cites lack of knowledge about the nominating petition, pressure to withdraw to avoid entangling alliances, opposition to Sunday laws, and belief in direct primaries as reasons. He would support public utilities reform and local governance measures. Councilman A. O. Johnson also declines.

First Man Bird Flies Over Long Branch At Aviation Meet

Ralph Johnstone of the Wright brothers corps sailed over Long Branch Saturday afternoon during the Asbury Park aviation meet. He flew a cross country route two miles north of the field, then along the coast to Interlaken, descending from 3,000 to 2,000 feet before gliding to ground. Hoxsey also flew to sea near Asbury Park. Crozee Tait, former South Elberon gardener for Philip Lehman, is reported in critical condition after traveling to California for health.

Keansburg man dies in suspected self murder case

Daniel P. Waitts a lifelong Keansburg resident 48 married and once prosperous reportedly shot himself in a barn late Friday or early Saturday after asking for a revolver to shoot rats. Neighbors doubt self harm saying threats and a hole in the head suggest possible foul play. Coroner's inquiry pending and a second man Alfred Stoney also attempted suicide by drinking iodine.
