Farmers across Monmouth County report a prosperous year with bumper yields in asparagus strawberries raspberries and blackberries. Early vegetables like turnips lettuce and cabbage yielded well while tomato and sugar corn prices stood at about 1.00 per crate and 1.76 per hundred. Noted truck farmers from Matawan Hazlet Keansburg Port Monmouth and Middletown report sharp income gains as fields are rotated to millets clover and timothy.

King's Highway Oiled by Standard Oil Company

The King's Highway through Middle town village, established by royal edict in 1719, has received a fresh oiling by the Standard Oil Company. The coating reduces dust and improves travel on what is described as a county road linking New York to New Jersey coast resorts. James Malgerey serves as road supervisor.

Rumson Fire Co Fair Sets September Events

Rumson fire company plans a fair at the firehouse during September with gala contests and athletic events. The Ways and Means Committee runs the affair led by Leweis Neuhauser chairman, William H. Hintelmann secretary, and George Hale treasurer. Covert and Bell of New Haven painters win a painting contract for the tuberculosis preventorium at Farmingdale with costs over $5,000.

Orphans Head Returns. Mrs Rolle resumes management

Mrs Rolle resumes management of the Aged and Orphans Home at Long Branch. Several contributions have been received recently. Services will be held at the home every Friday night and the public is invited. 2000 Witness Doll Carnival Coronation in Long Branch Parade

The second annual doll carnival crowned four year old Jeannette Finnards queen before about 2000 spectators at Washington Park. The event featured flower girls and pages, a ceremonial band, and a sky lit by warnings of a brewing storm that held off until after the program. Royal party included queen Jeannette Finnards and attendants. The crowd filled the park as the Long Branch audience watched the coronation with cheers.

The North End Hotel was valued at 85 000 though officials estimate 150 000 plus the adjacent pavilion at 40 000. Harris couple returns from Europe voyage to New York

Mr and Mrs Charles Harris arrived this morning after a three month European tour. Mrs Charles Corn mother of Mrs Harris was at Hoboken dock when the steamer docked. Judge Corn plans to visit the Harris home in New York tomorrow.

Tragedy Near Matawan Train Tracks Details Unknown

A man found dying beside the Morgan station tracks near Matawan was pronounced dead shortly after. Identified only by the number 71 matching William Kelly of a Morgan tomato factory, the 22 year old had recently worked at the factory and previously at Van Brunt’s livery. Coroner Sickles issued a burial permit.

West End man held on abuse charges after confession

Ralph Day, of West End Avenue, is charged with abusing his adopted thirteen year old daughter. The girl named threats by the defendant and described revolting mistreatment. Detectives arrested Day after the girl reported fear to Chief Layton. Day is held for grand jury after requesting counsel.

Richard Willbanks of Pemberton Avenue Oceanport died at his home yesterday morning from paralysis at age 67. He left a widow and one daughter Mrs. Mary Morris. Grand Stand Collapse Buries 500 at Elgin Auto Races

At Elgin's National Trophy Auto races a section of the new grand stand collapsed burying about five hundred spectators. The event was halted as guards and soldiers restrained the crowd. One woman was seriously injured and hundreds suffered cuts and bruises requiring ambulances and medical crews.

Mrs. Violetta Wolcott of 664 Buttonwood Avenue Long Branch dies after a year of illness in her 55th year. Funeral services set for Tuesday at home and St Luke's Church with Rev J G Lovell presiding. Fast yacht launched with owner in Branchport

W. H. Hallman of Port au Peck owns a $1,000 mahogany yacht launched Thursday at Branchport boat house. Built by Wm. H. Lewis, the 26 foot craft seats eight, uses a 12 h.p. Morse motor, and completed a five minute mile on trial.

Albert Spalding the American violinist from Monmouth Beach appeared before more than 8,000 at Ocean Grove auditorium delivering a varied program. His performance showcased his mature artistry with pieces by Tartini Beethoven Wieniawski and a virtuosic encore. Mme Charlotte Maconda soprano joined for selections and Andre Benoit with Clarence Reynolds accompanied. Spalding received a loud ovation as he left by motorcade.
