Lawyers clash in a Canadian Vermont court battle over deportation and a new sanity test claim. The dispute involves a prisoner quarrel and demands for stricter standards set by immigration officials.
In Sherbrooke Canada Thaw's fate hinges on possible transfer to Newport Vermont. Lawyers concede habeas corpus may be dropped and an informal inquiry will determine if he ever was an insane asylum inmate. Thaw delays choice until Monday at earliest. Also noted are nursing trainee Ming Madelie West and patient George Travers at local hospitals.
A fire bell in Red B rang at 1 o clock waking residents when a signal wire tangled with an electrical line around 3200 volts cut the entire fire alarm system. Inspector Brad Brower investigated the wire trouble and worked to restore the bell as dawn broke.
A petition drive for a Walsh commission government in Asbury Park gains momentum with about 80 names collected by Harry A. Borden and Daniel Robbins and signatures from Mayor Reginald S. Bennett and Councilman Willard Hagerman. Supporters anticipate a special election to decide the measure as factions clash over fusion plans while dances in the West End club hint at social pages amidst political tension.
Jesse A. Howland of Sea Bright claims patent rights on concrete piling used for Shark River inlet jetties built by Bay Dredging and Contracting Co of Brooklyn. He seeks royalties on every pile, while a state test and court review are planned as work may resume and December deadline looms.

The inquest held at City Hall was led by Coroner William H Morris Jr with testimony from Fire Chief Benjamin Birkenfeld and Fire Commissioner David Boyd.
Detective Elwood Minagh followed a trainman tip to the Atlantic Highlands pier where Duncan Vickers of Belford had been stabbed by Antonio Brazile. The suspect fled across meadows but was arrested after three miles, muttering innocence as he washed in a stream.
President Wilson plans to present all facts of the Mexican controversy in a forthcoming message to Congress, with a possible personal address. Huerta seeks support through Paris bankers as Mexico’s treasury weakens. Local reports note a piano case in Red Bank with Mrs Burns and Dr Storck, ending in a verdict favoring Burns.

Committees plan the annual St Luke's Bible School picnic set for Saturday September 6. A special train of twelve coaches will carry picnickers to Point Pleasant with free transport for all connected to the school. Tickets: 50 cents adults, 25 cents children under twelve. train departs Branchport at 9 20 am with stops at Long Branch and West End.
