Sins of St Patrick and Its Leaders Highlight Philadelphia Origins

Judge Mayer Sulzberger hosted Thomas A Fahy president of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick Philadelphia. Fahy recalled the society founded March 17 1771 with 26 founders including Moylan Barry and Meade. The group now has about 800 members and holds four annual meetings. Fahy favored Governor Wilson over Taft and Roosevelt in the coming election.

Narrow escape from instant death of Bridge Avenue worker

Frank Dennis of Bridge avenue Red Bank fell from a one story roof at the corner of Me chanic street and Globe Court while helping to pitch the roof. He struck a picket fence, was knocked unconscious for about fifteen minutes, and suffered a badly wrenched right shoulder plus facial and neck cuts. He was taken home by auto and will be laid up for several days before returning to work.

Veterans' reunion plans for 29th New Jersey Volunteers

Executive committee of the Veterans Association of the 29th New Jersey Volunteers met at Captain Mount's Red Bank office to finalize details for the 28rd annual regiment reunion at Eatontown on a Wednesday in September. Pres James Campbell and officers attended with Mrs. Eatontown and Shrewsbury churches invited to dinner at Crescent Hall. The day marks the 50th muster and 23rd reunion, with business in Matontown church and meals served at noon. Morford prepared a concise history of the regiment to be read in the afternoon session, with several notable speakers anticipated.

Finn Co. Contract for Woolley Broadway Store Addition

Joseph Finn and Company secured the contract to build an addition to the Broadway store of W. H. Woolley and Company. Construction has begun and will be carried forward, including laying a cement sidewalk in front of A. B. Stout’s Broadway residence and erecting a stucco wall at the Broadway entrance.

Old Church Harvest Supper Draws Large Crowd

Visitors from Freehold and intermediate points near Spring Lake helped fill the church, with tickets numbering diners to prevent crowding. Elks Club Clam Bake Draws Large Garfield Avenue Crowd

More than 400 guests attended Long Branch Lodge No. 742 BPO Elks clam bake and lawn fete at the Home on Garfield Avenue. The event featured illuminated lawn, long serving tables, a steam piled feast, a 30 member reception committee, and parking crowded with autos as guests from along the shore enjoyed a novel outdoor gathering.

Plans for a combined picnic of Simpson Methodist and Presbyterian Sunday Schools are set for Clark's Landing Point Pleasant next Tuesday August 27. Activities include land and water sports with contests. Students meet at their church by 8 16 then march to Long Branch for the 843 train to Point Pleasant. Keansburg resident William A. Gehlhaus, president of New Point Comfort Beach Company, was arrested by Red Bank Constable William Chandler on two charges. The accusations involve depositing animal and decayed vegetable matter on Mrs. Isabelle Phillips property in Marlboro Township and dumping privy refuse into a pond used for winter ice harvest.
