Trenton August 14. Dr J W L Roundtree, a leading Negro Republican, says Colonel Roosevelt’s opposition to negro rights at the Chicago Third party convention will cost him thousands of Negro votes in New Jersey. He cites 28 000 Negro voters and notes Roosevelt’s shift from square deal to disfranchising racial groups, urging support for Wilson or Taft.

Ambush Escape as Car Targeted by Bullet Near Como
Mr and Mrs W Dubois of Freehold escaped injury when a .22 rifle bullet pierced their windshield on a backroad near Como while traveling from Freehold to Asbury Park. Justice Schoenlein presided as jurors heard Andy Lustbaum claim $200 for damages after his locomobile collided with Albert Burgesser’s Rambler in North Long Branch. Budd Rankin drove Burgesser’s car. Lustbaum suffered a twisted axle and damaged frame. Burgesser’s Rambler required a new body. The accident involved multiple occupants including Burgesser and his wife plus a chauffeur and passengers. Little Boy Run Down by Auto Dies at Hospital
A three or four year old Wilbur C. Emmons was struck by an automobile on Bath avenue and died two hours later at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. Eyward L. Blaisdell drove the car. the accident occurred as workers passed a manhole and a water wagon approached. The grandmother awaited the child near the driveway as the mother watched from a distance. The coroner and bystanders noted the boy’s family was nearby and the vehicle slowed to pass the obstructions before the collision. Continued on eighth page.

Suspect in fatal hit and run near Belmar identified
Coroner A W Bennett and Chief Lawrence McCormick believe Robert Moore of Dogs Corners on Lakewood Squankum Road is the man who ran over and killed 22 month old Charles Vaste of Belmar. A small colored boy and witnesses identified Moore's horse and wagon, and Moore denies knowledge of the incident. He will be questioned in Belmar as the colored witness testifies.

Red Bank Arc Light Damaged by Telegraph Pole
An arc light at Broad and Borden streets in Red Bank was knocked down between nine and ten on Monday night when a telegraph pole fell onto the eastern side of the frame. The pole was rotted at the base, causing the collapse as no vehicle was nearby. Glass around the light shattered but no injuries or other damage occurred. Linemen from the Public Service Electric Company repaired the damage.
