Lightning Sparks Barn Fire Threatening Homes

A lightning storm last night set a two story frame barn owned by George McKillip on Deanport Avenue ablaze, with two tons of hay and farming equipment inside. A dog baying saved the McKillip family, who woke before the flames reached their residence as volunteers from Independent and Oceanic fire companies fought the blaze and freed about 175 chickens before they perished. Firefighters saved nearby homes though the barn and its contents burned. the origin was likely a lightning bolt. Separate flames erupted at an icehouse in Galilee owned by Garrett White, discovered around 8:30 pm and sighted by Captain Stewart Cook’s cook and William Presley of Oliver Byron Engine Co. as he traveled toward Sea Bright.

Newsies in Red Bank Contest for Cash Awards

Newsies in Red Bank compete in a unique contest to win cash from the Long Daily Record publishers. Ushers at St Luke's Outing Ended Damp Night of Plum Island

The Ushers' Union of St Luke's Methodist Episcopal Church held its annual midsummer outing at Plum Island opposite Water Witch. About thirty couples traveled by launches Olive Silvermere and a boat owned by Stanley Edwards, with a rainy night outfit for two boats. Firelight, refreshments, and songs followed on Plum Island, with the return trips starting after midnight. Despite rain dampening spirits for the uncovered boat, the event was deemed a success and will repeat next year. Committee members included Charles Byron Blaisdell, F Leroy Barry, and Albert W Northam. Henry D Brinley presided as ex-officio. Also noted is the death of John Duffy, 30, of Stokes Valley, after surgeries and illness. funeral services set for Star of the Sea Church with Mt. Carmel burial.

Titanic message found in bottle off Long Branch fishing trip

Alfred Berry Marsh of Plainfield fished from a sea bottle on a Sunday near Long Branch. The note inside warned Titanic is sinking signed John James Cornwall England. Marsh refused to surrender the bottle to White Star Line. he aims to locate the man’s family. Fred Norway and Fred Drake witnessed the find and corroborate details.

Stone Road Plan Ties Ocean Avenue Work to Lake Bridge

Engineer Reed of the State Roads Department met with Long Branch officials at City Hall to discuss spending several thousand dollars on permanent road building. The plan envisions stone roads along both sides of Takanassee Lake up to the new bridge, funded by motor vehicle funds, with further work as funds become available. Tinton Falls Man Pleads Guilty in Assault Case

James Walsh and John C Crawford of Tinton Falls clashed over remarks. Crawford confessed striking Walsh after a heated argument.
