Big 3 A.M Blaze Causes Little Damage

A 3 am fire on Laurel Street near A J Neimark junk yard startled residents. The one story building and a vacant barn were damaged with about 500 dollars in losses. Firefighters and volunteers contained the blaze quickly, origin uncertain as the building had been used to store bologna and was sealed with sawdust.

Lawn Party for Nephew's Twenty First Birthday

Mrs. James B. Brice and Mrs. Harry H. Tibben hosted a lawn party in New York with Mis. John H. Cooper serving as hostess for nephew J. Raymond Cooper's twenty first birthday. Guests included an automobile party from New York and several presents were received. The event featured a pleasant evening with various attendees.

Death at Red Bank Believed Self-Inflicted

The body of 28 year old Barney Kaney was found behind Thomas MacDonough's blacksmith shop in Red Bank. Coroner John I. Sickles and Dr. Edwin Field ruled death from carbolic acid poisoning after an empty bottle was found. Kaney had been diggin g the foundation for the New York Telephone Company building and was reportedly distressed by recent debaucheries. Funeral plans pending.

Shrewsbury Woman Dead Miss Jeanette Louisa Allen

Miss Jeanette Louisa Allen of Shrewsbury died yesterday at the Allen homestead from neuritis after long illness. A Red Bank resident for years she leaves two sisters, including Mrs. William C. Nicholas, and another sister Miss Allen. The burial service is at Christ Episcopal Church Shrewsbury Thursday at five, with interment in Christ Church Cemetery. Funeral directors Robert R Mount & Son of Red Bank oversee arrangements.

Orioles Defeated on Home Ground by Newark Team

The Orioles baseball team of Red Bank fell 9 to 7 to the Madison A. A. of Newark at Shrewsbury avenue Sunday afternoon. A close, exciting game saw Johnson and Ray Sanborn score for the Orioles while a large crowd cheered throughout.

River Road Inn hosts Havens baritone concert nightly

Edward C. Havens, a baritone, performs a concert every evening at River Road Inn in South Shore Shark River Belmar New Jersey. Laggren Bros of Elizabeth serve as official decorators for the Long Branch Carnival with headquarters at Van Tine's Gallery Ocean and Chelsea avenues.

Pier Construction Advances Toward Landing Mark

The August first milestone shows reinforced concrete and steel piling 675 feet from the bulkhead line with a target landing mark at 850 feet. Superintendent Twohig expects all piling driven by month end and a forty foot concrete roadway open by October 1. Five sixty one foot long piling, each about ten tons, are driven daily. The seaward pier end will be 175 feet wide when the structure opens to the public.

Parade of Floats Draws Wide Local Interest

The carnival parade for Thursday August 10th attracts many float entries. Chairman Hirschfeld reports strong merchant support with divisions assigned to Sea View avenue Cooper avenue and North Broadway. Floats assemble at Fay Street two hours before judging on Ocean avenue. bands lead the processional with committee escorts. First and second silver cups will be awarded in each of four divisions.

Health Board Inspects Ice Cream Sales and Sanitation

Local Health Board members led by A H Nelson EK B Blaisdell Henry D Brinley George H Northam and Inspector Taber tour stores selling ice cream and delicates food supplies noting drainage and sewer connections. A report will be presented at the next board meeting.

Yacht and speed boat races attract Red Bank crowd

The North Shrewsbury river at Red Bank hosted yacht racing by the Red Bank Yacht Club and five mile speed boat events under the Red Bank Motor Boat Club. The Manhasset led the ten mile yacht race to win, with May Win close behind. speed boat heats saw Mist disqualified for a time excess, Wildflower declared winner, and Seat taking the second race top prize. Race committee members included Powers, Ely, Frick, Hendrickson, Hendrickson, and Brown.

Scenic Treat For Poor Children In Ocean Park

William H. Piper led a scenic railway ride for 145 Salvation Army Home children from North Long Branch. Tears of gratitude appeared as youngsters laughed during the ride and were later treated to peanuts. The host invited them to return at no cost to the home managers.

Pound Fishing Good Reported By Local Fishermen

Pound fishermen report improved business after weeks of weaker effort. Boats average 15 barrels of fish per trip with weak fish selling for 4 to 5 cents a pound. They also haul about 200 pounds of blues daily, fetching 9 cents a pound in wholesale markets, totaling around $18, yet profits depend on price and catch levels.

Doll Carnival plans advance for summer pageant

Promoters aim for a two day Washington Park event on August 26 with a doll queen and attendants chosen. Mayoral support and police protection are reported as secured, with efforts to obtain a free band and prizes. Heroism Prevents Runaway Collision on Second Avenue

Harry Heldt, son of John Heldt of Liberty Street, chased a runaway wagon off Broadway as horses tensed to dash toward Chelsea Avenue. He leaped into the wagon, grabbed the reins, and halted the plunge just before a trolley car, saving lives with calm bravery witnessed by bystanders.
