Salaries Cut for State Prison Employees in April Plan
Owing to insufficient prison appropriations the state will cut salaries of prison staff starting May 1. Reductions average ten percent for salaries over $1,000 monthly and eight percent for those $100 or less. The Civil Service Commission certified the new rates today amid a push for more funds to cover payrolls and a new prison labor farm in Cumberland County. George Frederick Supp Dies in Red Bank at 77
George Frederick Supp, a longtime Red Bank carpenter and prominent contractor, died after a year-long decline in Spring Street near Tower Hill Avenue. A German-born resident for 53 years, he was 77, had health issues, and recently returned from Ann May hospital. Funeral services will be held at his home with Rev. Robert MacKellar officiating, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery. Surviving family includes son Henry N. Supp. first wife Alice Kehoe preceded him.

In Trenton on April 24 the National Prohibition Party nominated Rev James Gilbert Mason of Metuchen for Governor and outlined a thorough campaign. The platform calls for constitutional prohibitions on production and sale of alcohol, equal suffrage, child labor abolition, labor rights, initiative and recall, Sabbath protection, and school conservation. Dr Mason, 36-year pastor of First Presbyterian Church Metuchen, is the standard bearer. Donald McMillen of Nutley reelected state chairman as headquarters open. A state-wide campaign with a permanent organizer is planned. Mason’s name will appear on the November ballot via petition due to lack of sufficient primary votes.
