Presbyterians Hold Annual Meeting in Small Congregation

About fifty members of the First Presbyterian church attended the annual congregational meeting chaired by Wellington LaMonte. Officers and church societies reported. treasurer showed a small balance with liabilities of 279 dollars. Trustees elected for three years were Newel Atchrey, Wellington LaMonte, and Prof. W. E. Cate. A social session followed with refreshments. Separately, a Caesarean operation at Monmouth Memorial Hospital on Mrs. Dore and her baby was successful. both are recovering well.

President shifts Jury Reform speech to Essex County

President Wilson will deliver a Jury Reform Bill speech in Essex County on May 1 instead of Paterson. Governor Fielder approved the change citing Passaic delegation votes and referendum stance. Also notices bids for a concrete library walk by April 20 addressed to C. L. Arrowsmith.

Mayor Van Note’s Lifework Reviewed at Funeral

The body of Mayor Joseph Davison Van Note was laid to rest at Glenwood cemetery West Long Branch in a large Old First Church service with four preachers. Borough officials Odd Fellows and Junior Mechanics attended as organist Mrs. Harry M. Hulick led in singing and Rev. C. B. Fisher presided.

Funeral rites set for Mrs. Rachel Wyckoff of Red Bank

Mrs. Rachel Wyckoff aged 74 died in Syracuse after pneumonia while visiting her son. Funeral services at 1 pm Friday at her daughter Nettie Taylor’s Red Bank home, with Rev. W P Chase and Rev. Case officiating. Interment in Holmdel cemetery. Survived by six children and two sisters and two brothers. born in Keyport, long resident of Holmdel Township. Funeral Directors Robert R. Pallbearer Injured In Funeral Procession Crash

Henry De Grote Jr. of Portsmouth was en route to officiate as pallbearer at Albert Phillips funeral when his touring car skidded near Jacobus Crossing. The steering gear failed, the car collided with a tree, tearing the right wheels loose. De Grote escaped with minor injuries.

Ocean Avenue gets state funds for repairs this spring

State aid totaling 15000 dollars, with 400 more from last year, approved after persistent efforts by Senator Slocum Mayor Newcomb and Commissioner Woolley. The City will use its own forces to repair Ocean Avenue in Long Branch with monthly cost reports to the State Road Department.

Mayor Pallbearers at Beihl Funeral

Rev Dr John G Lovell of First Presbyterian paid high tribute to the late Mrs Margaret Bell at services from the Second avenue home of Mr and Mrs L Frank Wents Saturday afternoon. Mrs Bell had been a church member for 27 years in the city. Many floral pieces from friends and a large attendance of residents attended. Heart Neuralgia Ends Life of Long Branch Foreman

John A. Chasey Sr. died at his daughter’s North Long Branch home from heart neuralgia just before turning 60. A carpenter by trade, he recently served as foreman at the Monmouth Beach Inn and had to stop work Monday. He leaves a sister, two half siblings, four children, and several in-laws. Funeral services will be at his daughter’s home and then at Asbury M E Church, with interment at West Long Branch cemetery.

Bond issue defeated in Asbury Park water vote

A $275,000 water bond proposition failed by a two to one margin with 701 votes against 342 and 482 expressing no opinion. Voter turnout was light with a total registration of 2,248 and politics alleged to influence the result. Griffin's Orchestra and Daughters of Liberty dance noted in local notices.
