Paris reports from noon that the pope’s end is believed very near as doctors issue cautious bulletins. In Italy the pontiff’s condition shows some improvement but remains precarious with bronchial asthma and labored respiration. Cardinal Merry Del Val and Cardinal Kopp await possible conclave roles as foreign cardinals gather. Mgr Parolin, the pope’s nephew, stays at the bedside and has long held the family role in his life and education.

City council offers reward for public spitting conviction

Councilman George E. Moyer, chairman of the Asbury Park police committee, offers a $5 reward to be added to the police pension fund for the first conviction by city patrolmen for expectorating in public places.

Suffragettes Burn Lawmaker's Home in England

Suf fragettes early today burned the hand some and costly seaside residence of Arthur DuCros, a member of Parliament. Militant Literature was scattered about the grounds and police say they have no doubt the women or their hirelings were responsible. The house was completely destroyed with no one living there. The loss is $50,000.

Red Bank Opposes Sunday Moving Pictures Show

The Red Bank Board of Commerce, by unanimous vote, declared opposition to Walter Rosenberg's plan to open moving picture shows at the Lyric theatre on Sundays starting next week. They asked the Council to pass an ordinance banning Sunday exhibitions, citing reverence for the Lord's Day and potential harm to the community.

Y M A Defeats Pirates for Fourth Straight Win

The Y M A Baseball Club won its fourth consecutive game, defeating the Pirates 6 to 3 on Division Street Diamond. Solkowitz pitched well, allowing six hits and fanning thirteen, while Vitela struck out ten for the Pirates. Belmar Couple Elopes After Parental Interference

Hazel Schlesser of Belmar and Leo Hurst of Bradley Beach eloped after a failed March 20 attempt halted by Hursts father who dragged him home. They wed in New York last Tuesday and are on their honeymoon while parents remain silent. Renowned Choral Instructor Prof Bennett Dies at 68

Prof Seth Chamberlin Bennett of New York and head of several musical groups including the Long Branch Choral Society died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after a sinking spell. He was 68, survived by a widow, three sons and a daughter, with services in New Jersey then a later interment in Tyannis Massachusetts.

Serious Injury During House Move In Red Bank

John Van Kirk of Headdens Corner was seriously hurt at 10 am while moving a house for Ambrose and Thompson from Maple Avenue to Pearl Street. A joist dislodged, crushing his left elbow. he was treated by Dr. Sayre and sent for X rays at Monmouth Memorial Hospital to determine fractures.

In a City Hall court in Long Branch, Judge Jacob Steinbach Jr. granted a non-suit for Fannie Blum, while Morris Blum was found liable on a note for a wagon sold to Theodore G. Rowe, with Mrs. Blum escaping liability. The case hinged on service and residency, ending in Rowe's favor against Morris Blum.
