Clean-Up Club Plans Second Annual City Campaign

Forty-two Clean-Up Club workers met at City Hall to finalize plans for the April 15 to 23 campaign. Three teams will cart rubbish from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weather permitting, home cleanup efforts extend to district areas and volunteer drivers will distribute schedules and Be Ready slips.

Red Bank Chautauqua Set for June on High School Grounds

Red Bank will host a week long Chautauqua from June 12 to 18 on the high school grounds behind the building. Tickets cost two dollars and a tent will seat fifteen hundred. The program promises notable lectures and concerts including Miss Melicent Melrose soprano, Dietricks music and magic, Ex Governor Herbert Hadley, Dr Newell Dwight Hillis, Reno Wilbourne, and William Sterling Battie among others with daily performances and evening motion pictures. Belmar veteranary Dr Charles S Spies dies of tuberculosis at his Belmar home after twenty years in town. George Watson Jr dies in Monmouth avenue at age three. Funeral directors Hyer and Fleck handle arrangements. Other notices include a help wanted ad from Steiner and Son and a refrigerator ad from Jacob Steinbach Inc.

Special Session Deals Armory Site Purchase and Court Lease

At the monthly meeting Dr. Edwin Field of Red Bank presented a $6046.50 voucher for an armory site in Red Bank as the State Military Board readiness to release a $26,000 armory appropriation upon site acquisition. Judge Steinbach and City Solicitor Stevens proposed leasing Long Branch City Hall council chamber as a District Court room for five years at $40 monthly with heat and janitor service. the offer was accepted. Plans for road and bridge work at Wreck Pond were approved seeking state aid. The board set a two o’clock meeting tomorrow at the Globe Hotel with charity and prison reform groups, and approved bills totaling $32,697.83.

Red Bank Teachers Salaries Increased At Mechanic Street School

Red Bank Board of Education reengaged Prof. G. H. Harten as superintendent and approved a total salary increase of 1725 dollars, raising Harten to 5000 yearly. The list shows increases across several teachers at the High School Mechanic Street and other district schools, totaling near 40200 for all salaries. The janitor appointments were left for later review, with interviews planned. Also Edna Coble was asked to consider resignation, and Dr. W. D. Sayre was reappointed Borough school physician for three years at 600 dollars annually.

Monmouth to form Catholic Societies Federation branch
