Nixon lauds McCarthy probes during MA trip

Vice President Richard Nixon praised the McCarthy censures committee for its hearings as admirable and said its report could carry weight in the Senate. Speaking at Bedford Airport during a Massachusetts swing, he argued for convening the Senate after the November election to vote on the committee's recommendations to censure Senator McCarthy. He noted members were chosen to avoid election pressure and predicted a calm judicial decision after the election. He warned of a political fight in November but said Democrats would support them and referenced Maine's gubernatorial result as not nationally significant.
