Iowa Area That Voted for Ike in 1952 Changes in Straw Poll
Walter T. Ridner reports Keokuk County farmers, historically Republican, leaning toward Stevenson in 1952 straw poll shifts. Despite Ike’s past 60 percent, current polls show Stevenson favored by 57 percent of 40 surveyed farmers, with Kefauver and farm concerns shaping the vote. Health issues appear minor. Nixon presence has little impact. Benson is a frequent target though not understood. The piece captures rural angst, economic strains, and possible party realignment.
