Veterans' Legion Posts Grow In Long Beach Since War
The American Legion in Long Beach has grown to 15 posts with about 3200 members, doubling since World War II as new veterans joined. Local posts support hospitalized veterans, visit wards, and sponsor holiday parties. The original Post No. 27 remains largest with ~1800 members. Harbor Area Post No. 774 is the newest. Delegates to the national convention in Los Angeles include Devore Walden and Harmon Gunn from Long Beach. several local officers hold district and post roles.

President Harding Delayed in Malaya Voyage
The freighter President Harding will delay its round the world voyage about two weeks after a burned-out bearing in the propeller shaft. The ship is in dry dock in Singapore awaiting a new shaft flown from San Francisco. The failure occurred while en route from Singapore to Port Swettenham, Malaya.

Holland American Line presents maiden voyage of Diemerdyk
The Holland American Line will host a buffet at 6 p.m. aboard the new liner Diemerdyk at berth 189 Wilmington to celebrate its maiden voyage to the Pacific Coast. The 11,195 gross-ton vessel, first built for the line since the war, serves the North Pacific Coast route as flagship with 51 outside cabins each with private bath. It is 498 feet long, powered by GE turbines delivering 8500 shaft horsepower, and can voyage from the Pacific Coast to the Continent via the Panama Canal in under 20 days.

Storm of 11 Years Ago Recalled On Long Beach Shore
A 1939 disaster near Long Beach left 75 drowned as a Chubasco storm struck after a heat wave. The sea rose to towering waves, small craft were wrecked and several boats overturned near Malibu and Santa Monica Bay, with extensive damage to harbor structures and multiple vessels stranded or broken.
