Oil field drilling activity shows year to date rise
Through September 10 the number of wells started rose to 190 more than the same period last year, led by Hartington Heath and Slough area. Contractors expect continued gains in the next quarter, with Standard Oil planning 14 or 15 new wells in the Ventura Basin and others pursuing wildcat and development drilling in California fields including Santa Maria Valley. Union Oil eyes development near Del Aliso, while Exeter plans a Willman No 12 near Taft and McKittrick acres. Burroughs Corp to acquire Hadley Co, a Los Angeles maker of accounting and forms systems.
