EL SEGUNDO The back-to-work push at Douglas Aircraft Co. in El Segundo failed to gain momentum as only a few dozen workers returned. Roy Blow of the AFL declared the effort a complete flop while a group calling itself the Committee for Union Democracy claimed 2509 members. About 175 deputies and guards stood by as 106 cars entered the plant for the day shift, with 15,000 in the bargaining unit employed. Estimates of those back on the job ranged from 3000 to 3500, though unconfirmed.

Six Communist Leaders Indicted in Detroit Case

Gardena Wife Saves Baby at Bay Entrance
A Gardena family survived a perilous Bay channel incident as two boats were swamped by seven foot waves. The Getz family, including 33 year old Getz and his wife Thea, 29, plus their 23 month old daughter Debra, were trapped when a collier capsized their 20 foot cabin cruiser. Getz freed his wife and child on his third attempt and towed them to the surface while a lifeguard launch ferried them to safety. The mother, who cannot swim, described fighting currents to protect her baby. All three were taken to Community Hospital with non fatal injuries.
