Boy saves father in Heidelberg bank robbery shooting
A 14 year old American boy in Heidelberg shot the robber who had seized his father and family in a downtown bank heist. Bank manager John W. Kuhel described how his son Robert hid a pistol and fired twice, killing Hugo Walgenbach as the robber aimed at Kuhel. Kuhel said the boy had learned target shooting on a range and was not a hardened delinquent. The incident followed the robber demanding 75 000 dollars or 300 000 marks and attempting to flee, prompting the boy to retrieve a registered target pistol from upstairs and intervene as an MP jeep approached. The gun reportedly used by Walgenbach may have killed a clerk earlier that day.
