Crash Kills First Nazi Rocket Pilot in Alamogordo
Two planes taking off at Alamogordo Municipal Airport collided Thursday night. One pilot, Heinrich Lau, 40, a former German Air Force officer who test flew the first Nazi experimental rocket plane, was killed instantly. Passenger James Perry, 28, of Alamogordo, died later. Pilot F. A. Newell, 30, of El Paso, was critically injured. Officials investigated possible sun-blindness as a factor.
