Demand for cars stays strong despite price hikes
Detroit reports that price increases have not dampened demand for passenger autos. Industry analysts note a large backorder and rising production possible in 1948, with a push to cheaper models if demand shifts, while overall output may exceed past highs.
New car back orders rise as auto pace stays tight
Nationwide survey of dealers by the National Automobile Dealers Association shows orders for new cars at about 7,300,000 as of July 1, up 11 percent from January. Production delays could take 26 months to fill, with cancellations and duplicates complicating delivery expectations. Willys Overland exports exceed 70,000 vehicles, and West Coast dealers prepare to receive the first DeSoto assembled on the West Coast.
