State Attorney General Weighing Legality of Charity Raffles
San Francisco UPI reports Attorney General Edmund G. Brown is weighing the legality of police and fire department charity raffles. He says they are in the same category as any organization if their operations violate the lottery law. The Saints and Sinners milk fund plan this year uses a bank night format with tickets for police and fire raffles. Proceeds aid widows and orphans of fallen or wounded department members.

London dispatch reports rumors Henry Ford I denied plans by the Ford Foundation to offer its stock to the public while indicating it may consider selling some holdings within a year. California Governor Pushes Study of Mentally Ill Children
Governor Goodwin J. Knight declared California committed to researching causes, prevention, and treatment of mentally deficient children. He cited 120000 affected statewide, a 7500 capacity in three state hospitals, 2000 waiting, and urged care at home for most. He said schools, aided by the state, should educate the rest while hospitals serve the most hapless.

Bandits Bind Bank Tellers in Calaboria Robbery
Two gunmen robbed Bank of America Calaboria branch just before closing, binding and gagging the teller and two others, ransacking the cages for about 10 minutes and escaping with approximately $5,690. Branch Manager P. Olivero reported to Sheriff Murray Hathaway. Helen Dunlap was ordered to lie on the floor and later driven from the scene in her own car.
