Food Price Rise Could Reach Record Levels Next Year
Washington, Oct 31. The Agriculture Department warned that food prices may hit a record high in 1951. Phased rises in 1950, driven by war in Korea, could surpass the 1948 peak by midyear if demand outpaces supply and anti inflation steps fail. Higher employment, wages, and social security boosts lift purchasing power, while output constraints and credit controls limit supply. taxes and other factors partially offset gains.
