Long Beach Mental Health Clinic Needs More Support
The Citizens Committee for a Long Beach State Mental Hygiene Clinic met for a luncheon to discuss insufficient local mental health facilities. Mrs. Gertrude Withers of the VA Social Service said private care is unaffordable for many and the one day a week clinic is the only psychiatric help available. A growing waiting list was noted as the city’s size requires three full-time clinics, and the committee seeks public backing for expanded mental health services.

Death Rap Faces Suspect in Lynwood Disappearance
Capit. Ralph Lamb of the Las Vegas sheriff's office asked Stark County DA John Mendoza to charge Sheldon Rich, 53, with the murder of James Hartley, 38, a Sheet Metal Workers Union official. Rich was believed a key figure in John E. Puller’s Lynwood disappearance. Hartley’s murder weapon was found with Rich after his arrest in Washington, D.C. Hartley’s body was found near Las Vegas last March. Rich is held by Washington police at Nevada authorities’ request. Investigators say Hartley was killed for knowing who stole union funds and books, and Fuller was killed for knowing too much.
