A 17 year old Compton high student, Joan Burris, said a man abducted her near school, drugged her with chloroform, and held her for about 20 hours in a hotel room. She described being scratched and burned with cigarettes, found half clothed in a Pershing Square restroom, with a blue sedan seen by her. Authorities say she is recovering at a city hospital.

Twentieth Victim Seized by Thugs in Tennessee
In Sparta Tennessee a trio of highway kidnappers abducted a 20th victim after leaving the 19th confined in the trunk of a stolen car. The trunk was found in a Cumberland plateau gulch under hay in an abandoned barn near an old grain mill. Lee Sahnent was rescued after about five hours in the trunk. Johnson, aided by two fox hunters, freed himself and walked to a Spencer garage to call the patrol.

Chinese units moved to Pinpoint Hill atop Sniper Ridge, but were unable to penetrate the Korean lines as South Koreans fought to clear underground passages. Lt Gen Chun Il Kwon said the Chinese persisted in digging like rats, while observers suggested a fresh Chinese regiment reinforced the attack. The South Koreans withdrew at dark with Chinese forces still holding.

Living Costs Dip After Six Months of Rise
