United States cites Soviet attack on B 29 as wanton
The United States charged in a note to Moscow that Soviet planes made a wanton and unjustifiable attack on a missing American B 29 off Japan since Oct 7. The note demanded compensation for the loss and for any crew deaths. It said the bomber was on a routine unarmed flight within Japanese territory and under explicit orders to stay within it. The U S note rejected Moscow inquiry that the bomber violated Soviet frontiers and said the attack occurred six miles from Hokkaido and 32 miles from Yuried Island.
