Legion Mee Over Had Plenty of Zip at AUAMS Meeting
At the American Legion national convention in AUAMS Florida delegates showed vigor. They urged Congress to repeal the U S commission to UNESCO while upholding UN membership. They defeated a 100 a month pension plan for WWI veterans at 60 and backed broader veterans benefits. Wagner was elected national commander by acclamation amid a floor revolt against a steering committee. The group condemned communism and urged hard stance on China and Korea, while Eisenhower sought an exchange proposal on ground inspection teams with the Soviet Union.
