Steel Producers Ordered to Hold Defense Supply
Washington Oct. 12 The National Production Authority ordered steel producers to reserve 3 to 25 percent of normal output for defense use, varying by steel type and demand. The measure, supplementing a prior priorities system, allows holding 75 to 95 percent of normal production for civilian use and lets firms reject orders placed less than 45 days before delivery. Normal production is based on average monthly shipments in the first eight months of 1950.
