Shippers Back Bradley on ERP Policy Clash
U S Reg Willis W Bradley of Long Beach led charges against State Department ERP handling. Danish shipping interests allegedly bought three Canadian steamers with Marshall Plan funds while U S ships remain laid up. Coastwise Line manager E A Gardner backs Bradley, urging American merchant marine survival. National Federation of American Shipping notes 80 percent of overseas trade via American ships, a policy Congress supported under the act. Bradley says law allows purchases of ships from outside the U S for building up shipping, labeling them commodities.
