Hartford Man Freed After Death Sentence Overturned
Joseph Taborsky of Hartford faced a re trial after the Connecticut Supreme Court set aside his 1951 conviction for first degree murder in a West Hartford liquor-store hold up. A new trial was granted due to the mental state of the key prosecution witness, his brother Albert, who is now confined to a mental hospital. Albert admitted insanity and incompetence to testify, leading to a guilty plea from Albert to second degree murder and a life sentence, while Joseph maintained innocence.
