Cheap and Lightweight New Rocket Goes Up Eighty Miles
A fifteen foot rocket weighing 225 pounds reached eighty miles up in a test off Wallops Island Virginia. Dr S Fred Singer of the University of Maryland, supervising for the Defense Department, said its chief value is its simplicity of launching and a cost of about $2000. The two stage rocket, built by Republic Aviation's Guided Missiles division, Mineola Long Island, was cleared Sunday and will be used mainly for research and testing.
