Government Economists Cheer on Industrial Outlook Amid Drops
Washington reports from Nov 30 show economists cheer a peacetime production record in October and fewer strikes in early 1948. The Federal Reserve says output rose to 95 percent of the 1935-39 average, with durable goods at 130 percent and non durable at 79 percent. Prices of farm products fell since January, easing costs for households, though some warn of a potential postwar price collapse if declines spread across many goods. Commissioner Ewan Clague cautions that a broad, spiral downward readjustment would be the danger.
