Fashions for the whole family will be modeled at Newport Beach and Costa Mesa’s Christmas Preview and Fashion Show on Saturday December 4 at the Rendez Vous Ballroom. About 25 models will display clothing from harbor shops in two parts with an intermission. Booths by roughly 50 merchants will open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Judges include Mayor Drake and local chamber leaders. Masters of ceremonies feature notable local figures.

SAN PEDRO reports the ending of the maritime strike will release over 250000 tons of freight from 41 ships stranded. Cargo includes 70000 tons of steel and enough material to build a department store or a large building. A shampoo manufacturer will gain hundreds of tons of bottles letting 400 workers return. a shortage of glassware had caused 100 layoffs. The cargo also includes 150 tons of Halloween merchandise and costumes.

Four Women Among Civic Job Applicants
LYNWOOD Nov. 27 Four women were among the 15 persons who applied for the position of secretary-manager of the Lynwood Chamber of Commerce. Bud Pearson chamber president said eight eligibles have been screened out and a meeting of Phil Grosser employment committee next Wednesday will reduce the names to the lucky three. The board will then select a secretary. Pearson noted strong talent to succeed Ralph Malaby in the booster post. Fatal Shooting Still Veiled with Mystery
Santa Ana police ruled a .380 automatic pistol as the weapon in the death of 72 year old Pete Knudsen who was found slain in his garage after a Wednesday afternoon. Six 380 caliber cartridges were found in his home and a rust scarred homemade holster matched the pistol. An autopsy cited a large caliber bullet. the spent bullet remains unfound. Detectives Bradley and Lentz disclosed details as the case remains a possible murder with the inquest likely to be held Tuesday. Funeral plans are not yet set.
