Campaign for funds readied to ease Long Beach hospital strain
Long Beach faces critical hospital overcrowding with occupancy near 108 percent. United Hospital Fund Inc led by KF B Miller will launch a fundraising drive next month to finance new hospital buildings approved by voters in February. The goal may reach several million dollars, aiming to add 693 new beds and raise total beds to 1 556 within three years, though the expansion may still fall short of the 2 459 beds recommended for the area. The main project is a $6 650 000 400‑bed general hospital on Atlantic and American Aves and 27th and Columbia Sts, with old Seaside Memory Hospital to be retired later.
