Korea rejects UN truce demand amid push for full liberation

South Korea said it would not accept any truce arranged by the United Nations without its consent. President Syngman Rhee’s foreign minister stated Korea’s future is its own business and rejected UN or allied settlements. The move followed earlier denouncements of UN efforts and calls for liberation of all Korea and a large Korean armed force under U.N. oversight. The statement came as U.N. delegates pursued an Indian prisoner deadlock plan despite Soviet opposition.

Charge Airman Tried to Sell Sabre Secrets

Tokyo report notes 5/Sgt. Giuseppe Cascio charged with conspiring to sell secret information on the F-86 E jet to the enemy in Korea. He and Sgt. John P. Jones were arrested Sept. 21. Jones later judged insane and sent home. Cascio could face life imprisonment if convicted. no trial date set.

Small-Craft Warnings Expanded East of New Orleans

The U S Weather Bureau ordered small craft warnings hoisted from New Orleans eastward to St Marks Florida. The warning, issued for daybreak today, extends an earlier alert from Brownsville Texas to New Orleans and predicts increasing southerly winds to 25 to 35 mph with gusts this afternoon, shifting to northerly from New Orleans to Pensacola by Wednesday.

Plane Crashes Kill 162 Across Pacific Rim

Western Air Toll reports 162 dead or missing in a wave of military air crashes since November seven. A U S B 50 bomber went down in Maryland with five dead, a Royal Canadian Air Force bomber burned in British Columbia killing eight, and a test flight from Edgewood Maryland saw four dead with one survivor. Wintery conditions gripped the Southwest with sub zero temperatures in Montana and near zero in parts of Arizona New Mexico and Wyoming.
