Police in Cleveland consult juvenile authorities over a case involving 4 month old Rosemary with broken legs and a broken right arm. Parents Charles E. and Marie cannot explain the injuries. The infant previously had a brain hemorrhage treated on Sept 30.
A 60-year-old grandmother Mrs Glenn McKnight of St Joseph Missouri survived five days trapped in a wrecked car in a weeded Hamburg Iowa gully after a 40-foot plunge on US Route 275. Rescued by highway grader operator Jack Kraschel she drank rain water and a boric acid eyewash kept her alive. Doctors call her condition remarkable and continuing improvement with no pneumonia.
President-elect Eisenhower keeps door open for swift changes in Truman era policies after a chilly White House conference with President Truman. Allies on Capitol Hill see indications of budget cuts and shifts in foreign affairs, while no immediate overhaul of core policies is promised.
Los Angeles police arrested singer Billy Henderson and his 19 year old wife on narcotics charges after a nightclub engagement. Officers found a hypo needle set in the couple’s home yard and noted needle marks on both arms. Henderson gave his real name as William A Thoroughgood and has been a user in the past eight months. Mrs Henderson, who is expectant, was taken into custody following the discovery of needle marks.
Washington FI Price Stabilizer Tighe Woods announced readiness to suspend price ceilings on all clothing and on soft drinks and said he expects to lift ceilings on pork at wholesale. He indicated possible limits on live cattle payments and told the Senate House committee he does not believe the Republican administration will abandon price controls on April 30 unless Congress extends the law.

Taft announced two or three Cabinet recommendations were submitted amid a “very harmonious” meeting with Eisenhower. Los Angeles police officer Dan Tolman shot 17 year old George Valencia after the youth stormed toward him with a four foot steel spike at 2871 Elia Ave. Valencia had earlier been taken from Poly High to General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Tolman fired two warning shots before firing as Valencia advanced, his family saying they prepared papers to commit him to the psych ward. Tolman defended his actions saying he had no other recourse to protect his life.
President Truman will hold a news conference at 10 30 a m on Thursday. It will be his first news conference in Washington since September.
A Douglas DC-6B named Arild Viking with the SAS insignia departed from Los Angeles International Airport for Copenhagen via Thule Air Base Greenland. The 24 crew and 22 passengers included Danish and Norwegian ambassadors and Arctic veteran Col Bernt Balchen. The 24 hour polar flight covers about 5852 miles with two hour stops at Thule and Edmonton.
The U S Air Force base on Okinawa tightens precautions as a powerful typhoon with winds up to 120 mph bears down from the south. The storm, 400 miles south this afternoon, is expected to hit Okinawa within 48 hours, while Manila reports the typhoon veering north toward Formosa and the Philippines braces for impact. The official death toll from Formosa’s last strike reads 215 dead and 255 seriously injured.
