Janet Kaye Ellithorpe married Gene R. Ross in a candlelit double ring service at Silverado Community Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Paul Hershey. The couple, from Long Beach area families, plan to reside in North Long Beach after a Las Vegas honeymoon.
Ebell Club members heard H Sickinger describe a travelogue on Switzerland retelling the nation’s scenery bears and three foot tolls visited in Bern and other sites. Mrs Fred King presided as Vict Mrs Roy L Congdon introduced the speaker with refreshments and a Thanksgiving basket to close the event.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Guild of the Grace Methodist Church host a combined meeting Thursday at 8 p.m. Honored guest Mrs Wray Andrew will be welcomed with devotions led by Mrs George C Morgan. D R H Silverthorne will speak on Our Spanish Speaking chbuts, with Institute pupils singing. A coffee hour follows hosted by Mrs Vernon Johnson. Trinity Lutheran Church hosts a fall festival Friday with 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. dinner and crafts for sale, plus children's games. First Friends Church hosts a business session led by J Monks and a talk by Rev Merald Mickleson in the afternoon with music by Don Hackett and Herald Mickleson.
Jacqueline Lorraine Mathews and Sidney Irving Gaylor wed in a double ring ceremony at First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Johnston Calhoun officiating. The bride wore Chantilly lace and carried a bouquet. reception followed at the bride’s mother’s home. The groom, in the Navy, is to be stationed aboard the USS Impeccable. A holiday bazaar hosted by the church society runs Friday evening with decorated booths and home-cooked foods.
St Barnabas Parish Council will meet Thursday night in the Parish Hall with Mrs Herbert Sipola presiding. William Z Mooring, lecturer and critic for the Tidings, will speak. In National Education Week the school classrooms will be open from 4 to 7 p m and 8 p m for pupils work on display.

Phyllis Ann Engbarth and Thomas R B Ambroase recited vows in a mid afternoon ceremony before family and Rev C B Sanders at the Immanuel Gantiss Church in Compton Cor tom. The bride wore a powder blue suit with navy accessories and white rosebuds. Ma tron of honor was Mrs Leroy Merrifield with best man Leroy Merrifield. The couple, offspring of Engbarth and Ambroase families, hosted a reception for over 80. The bride, a Compton native and Compton Junior College graduate, will live in South Gate with USC graduate husband after a short honeymoon.
Miss Joy Stone daughter of Luther and Mrs Stone wed Rennis Caygle of Tupelo in Westminster at the Church of Christ before about 330 guests. Rev W W Pace officiated. Bride wore white satin lace and net gown with fingertip veil, carried white begonias and a white Bible. Attendants included Geraldine Stone as maid of honor and Talmage Hammonds as best man. A reception followed at the couple’s home. The bride attended Huntington Beach High School. the groom is in the Navy stationed in Long Beach.
Phyllis Henderson became Mrs Leonard Gordon Johnson after a ceremony at Second Brethren Church officiated by Rev George O Peek. The couple, who lived at Cedar Avenue, Grand Canyon trip, and reception in the church social hall followed.
Postal Supervisors of Long Beach Branch 198 and the Ladies Auxiliary gathered at Colorado Lagoon Clubhouse for a potluck supper and business sessions. They planned finishing clothing and miscellaneous items made since summer to donate to the Navy Chapel for distribution to needy children.
Long Beach Piacture outlines civil defense prep at a PTA council meeting. Speakers from American Red Cross and district extension chairs urged block organization, home safety placements, and emergency supplies, including canned goods, sterilized dressings, flashlights, and a battery radio, with plans for school PTAs to organize and advocate legislation on faster trials for sex offenders.
