Pension Plan Freeze Seen for Charter Vote Nov. 8
City attorney says the proposed charter amendment would lock the 1/70 retirement plan into the charter for general municipal employees if approved at the Nov. 8 special election. It would prevent switching to other plans without another vote. The 1/70 plan is less costly to the city than the 1/60, with annual cost around $482,000 for 25 years, later dropping. No tax rate increase is anticipated, using oil and gas revenues for the city’s share, and an actuarial review would occur every few years to ensure pay-as-you-go funding.
